009 – 10 WAYS TO WIN IN TOUGH TIMES
It is my pleasure to come your way again, thank you for visiting Inspiringaddo.com. I know you have read the previous blogs but if you haven’t please go back and read them as I am sure you will be inspired. I will very much appreciate your comments, that is the only way I will be able to write and serve you better.
Today, we will talk about winning in tough times. Reading the papers and listening to news these days are very depressing excercises for those who listen to them; wars all over, unemployment, poverty, disease, terrorism and crimes of all sorts make the headlines. All these contribute to the pressure we all feel today, so I thought it is timely to provide some help on the ways to thrive in our world today. Let’s look at them:
1. Events Are History
Whatever has gone wrong in your life; be it failure (in business or exams), loss of money or loved ones, unemployment, sickness or hardship, are all events. The first step is to accept that they have happened and cannot be changed. We have lost control of yesterday, tomorrow is far away but we can control today. So take control of today, leave the past to history where it belongs, but don’t allow them to define you because you are far more powerful and excellent than you can ever think. You are not a failure, failure is an event, it is in the past and it’s gone!
2. Positive Self Talk
The truth is life is a puzzle and so to get it right you must tell yourself that there is no other option than to get up and go. Arise from your misery and say positive things to yourself. One “self talk” that really gets me going when things are tough is: “Get up man, only cowards give up, are you going to give up now? After so much effort! That’s not you!” And bang, I am off again, pushing hard to breakthrough. Say to yourself “I will never ever give up”, that’s not the history I want to be written about me!”.
3. Humility
In times like this, it is normal to be blinded by pride and ignore opportunities for survival all around. Remember that in tough times, competition is quite tight, in most cases it becomes a matter of survival of the fittest. For a single job, there will be thousands of applicants. In these times, it necessary to understand that, taking a small job, no matter how demeaning it looks, does not mean you will do the job forever. No no no! It is only part of the journey to your destination. Take the job, work as hard as you can but keep the dream alive! One day, there will be a way and you will move on.
4. Self Improvement
Whatever your situation, if you work on yourself, the secrets of coping or even conquering your situation will appear. A good place to start is by looking for books or other materials written by people who have undergone similar situations. This is the benefit of living in these time; many have gone before us and fortunately written books we can learn from. You will be amazed at the difference this will make. Watch free YOUTUBE videos, listen to audio books at audible.com. Audible.com will let you download the first book for free and then very low monthly subscription fee.
5. Get a Journal
Get a journal and write down exactly what you are going through at the moment and the lessons you are learning each day. Life has times and seasons, and the people that make it through tough times are the people who take time to study these times and seasons. When you understand these times and season you will not only be able to save yourself from ever being a victim of the seasons but you will be able to predict these seasons in most cases. With this process, it will be very easy to identify what works and what doesn’t. Gradually, you will become better and more aware and be able to realise the benefits referred to by the great Napoleon Hill in these wise words “Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.”
6. Check your Network
Jim Rohn said that you are the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with. If you are running with a crazy, moaning and lazy crowd, you will surely become one of them soon. It is impossible to breakthrough tough times if you maintain the same network of friends. Create new circles for yourself, circles that are inspiring, circles that take responsibility, circles that understand that for any change to happen, it must be an individual’s responsibility. When you do this, you will surely see change!
7. Offer your Services for free
This is the most overlooked key to breaking through tough times. Most charities are struggling and so are most people in your community especially the sick and the elderly. Take time to help, do what you can, even a visit is what most people want, to help them deal with loneliness. It also offers you an opportunity to meet people who may be able to help with your current situation. Finally, there is a natural law of compensation which states that you will get many folds of whatever you give. This is very much reflected in all religions! It surely works.
8. Pay attention to your location
The world is too fast today that people hardly find time to have a close look at their environments. We all want it now and believe that it is in another place and not in our location! If you spend some time and ask yourself; what is the reason that I am here at this point in time? The answer always lie round the corner but we must bring ourselves to the point that we believe this. Carefully examine your location, you will be able to find out the problems of the people around you, solve them and they will happily compensate you for being of help. If you can become one of the few who believe that the solution to big problems are not always far away, you will surely win in tough times.
9. Check your mindset
Mindset is everything, as it always materialises. Think about it, all the great technological advancements started in the mind, so has all the negative incidents in history. It is necessary that you understand the power of the mind and use it to your advantage. A very effective way of controlling you mind is by using a technique called “Mindfullness”. It works by closing your eyes, taking deep breathes and concentrating on your breath and keeping your mind where you are. Look for more techniques. Books are great as well. The most popular is “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Napeleon Hill. Let me know if you want this book and I will send you the eBook for free.
10. Count your blessings
Finally, always count your blessings. If you can read this, you are fortunate. Some people are too sick to read, others have no access to this medium. Some are even mad or dead! So count your blessings and get excited about them. Be thankful for what you have already, if you want to have more! When it all gets to you, sit down, pull out your journal and list your blessings and it will surprise you how blessed you are!
Again this is to your success, WIN IN TOUGH TIMES!
